Mr. Gum
Unknown education and fan of speculative fiction.
MAVERICK's chief rules interpreter and executive head judge.
Part of MAVERICK's Game Design and Development Department and the On-Site Supervision Department.
Mr. Gum's first public appearance was at the launch of 【No Access】. He was invited to be the chief rules lecturer and executive judge. At the launch, he appeared with a sharp gaze and cold attitude, and used a cold voice to explain the overall rules of 【No Access】 in detail to the media. It is speculated that during this three-year disappearance period, Mr. Gum may have overcome his depression through special medication under the secret guidance of MAVERICK's Supreme Council and devoted himself to 【No Access】. To date, Mr. Gum and the MAVERICK Supreme Council have yet to make a clear response to this.
While watching certain quizbowl variety shows in mainland China, Mr. Gum questioned the rigour and fairness of their rules and posted detailed criticisms and suggestions on social networks aimed at prompting improvements to the rules. However, the move sparked online violence from fans of the show's guests, causing Mr. Gum to fall into depression for a time. Rumour has it that he communicated with MAVERICK via letters on several occasions while he took a break from the show to recuperate. Eventually, Mr. Gum decided to drop out of school, deleting all his social accounts and cutting off contact with the outside world for three years.
According to feedback from the first participants of MAVERICK, Mr Gum is extremely strict about following the rules. Once someone is found to have tried to break the red line of the rules, Mr Gum will impose a penalty of 【No Access】. In this regard, Mr. Gum himself has publicly stated that this statement is purely a rumour.
In addition, some participants have spotted a masked participant suspected to be Mr. Gum in some tabletop tournaments. This participant had a very strong performance in the group stage, but often made ‘big mistakes’ in the semi-finals and failed to qualify for the finals. Sources say that Mr Gum's mistakes in the semi-finals may be related to the fact that the final stage requires a public photo shoot, and that his reluctance to appear in public may be the main reason for this.
Mr. Gum has been doing very well in the board game Splendor.
